R.A. The Rugged Man: "Uncommon Valor"
R.A. The Rugged Man has built up a reputation that stays very true to form, and has definitely kept him away from mainstream audiences. All along though, I believe he's become a top lyricist and wordsmith, despite the subject matter being less than appealing at times. The backpacker in me will always enjoy some R.A. Rugged Man and even the non-backpacker in me can get down too. Here's something for the latter as R.A. pens a tale of a Vietnam Solider who escapes imprisonment yet becomes trapped by the effects of Agent Orange, a gas used during the Vietnam war. Dubbing himself a certified G (and the G is for genius) Ice Cube makes a strong statement with "I Rep That West". The song carries the classic dark sound that Ice Cube is known for, as Cube wonders why awards shows come to his town without giving him his props, gives the brush off to radio stations outside L.A., and questions the dedication of those claiming to be on his team. M.I.A.'s new album will be self-titled and hit retailers on June 29th. The album's red carpet is this new video for "Born Free" off the LP. The video is directed by Romain Gavras, and is actually a short film which follows U.S. marshals raiding a variety of residences and rounding up a specific group of people in a wonderfully done commentary on rights and freedoms.
