Jay Electronica: "Shiny Suit Theory" (Feat. Jay-Z & The Dream)
November 15, 2010Uncategorized

Days after signing with Jay & Roc Nation, Mr. Elec is here to give us a taste of what should be a lengthy & prosperous tenure at The Roc with the other two J's. I knew something clicked when I heard Elec & Cole on "Just Begun" off RPM this summer, and i'm sure Hov did as well. G.O.O.D Music & Roc Nation seem be leading the wave of new & improved labels, hopefully gearing up to showcase & put real music back on the national map. Hit the jump for the track & also check out Jay Elec - The Announcement, the song performed at his signing event in NYC on Friday.
Yelawolf: "Pop The Trunk" Live With The Roots
November 15, 2010Uncategorized

The Roots are an amazing band, and with all of their accomplishments they really ingrain their legendary status by inviting so many other artists to rock with them. They can play any song as if it was their own. In this clip they invite Yelawolf to the stage where they perform "Pop The Trunk". The video footage isn't the best here, but it's awesome to see ?uestlove spazz out on the chorus. Yelawolf is currently prepping the Interscope release of Trunk Muzik 0-60. See the video below.
DELS: "Trumpalump" (Joe Goddard Remix)
November 15, 2010Uncategorized

DELS is a promising chum from the UK's Hip Hop scene, and no more evidence of that is needed beyond this remix of his forthcoming 12 inch, "Trumpalump". The song is produced by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, and will be released via Big Dadda on 11/29. This remix also comes from Goddard, and features fellow UK'er, Ghostpoet. Grab it below.
Lupe Fiasco Freestyle Live At The Shrine
November 15, 2010Uncategorized

Last night Lupe Fiasco performed at a campaign kickoff event for Che "Rhymefest" Smith, who is running for alderman of Chicago's 20th Ward. I had the pleasure of djing the party before Lupe took the stage. Lu took the crowd through "Kick Push", "I'm Beaming", "Superstar", "The Show Goes On", as well as this freestyle before calling it a night. Check out the footage below courtesy of Cam Be.

Girls: "Thee Oh So Protective One"
November 15, 2010Uncategorized

What is it with these bands and their un-googlable names? Never mind, I've been on this rant before. Last we heard from Girls they were taking over my Ipod with their brilliant first album appropriately named, Girls. I was a sucker, and still am, for the amazing opening track "Lust for Life". The newest EP by the band, Broken Dreams Club, is steeped in 1950's nostalgia. The opening track, "Thee Oh So Protective One" is a fantastic 1950's dream-pop ballad. It conjures black-and-white images of slow-dancing at the sock-hop, not that I ever attended one, but I've seen "Back to the Future".
Broken Dreams Club will be released on November 22nd on True Panther Sounds.

Alecia Chakour and The Osrah: "Walk On" Live
November 14, 2010Uncategorized

If you haven't heard of Alecia Chakour & The Osrah, here's a crash course in the form of this live performance taken from their 10/29 show at NYC's Nublu. Alecia Chakour fronts the Osrah, a band composed of her brother and childhood friends. Chakour is the daughter of Joe Cocker's former musical director, and grew up with blues and soul ever present. The band's EP, Loomi, is available now and chock full of goodness. See the video below.
Kanye West: "Chain Heavy" feat Talib Kweli and Consequence (prod by Q-Tip)
November 13, 2010Uncategorized

Matt Lauer, album leaks (which I have avoided at all costs), and trips to Ferrarri land will not stop G.O.O.D. Fridays, and thakfully so as "Chain Heavy" is the s**t. The UFO friendly beat comes courtesy of Q-Tip, while Kanye West fancies about Ancient Egypt, Outerspace existence, and Black power... Chain heavy indeed. Grab it below.
Rihnna: "What's My Name" feat Drake video
November 13, 2010Uncategorized

Rihanna's duet with Drake, "What's My Name", hit radio and the charts hard when it was released a few weeks ago. I expect this video to do the equivalent on networks that play videos. Very clean and crisp. See it below.
