Timmy Grins

The smoke from 4.20 has lifted, and I now want to direct your attention to the sobering fact that April is Alcohol Awareness Month.  I believe we all know someone (or are someone) who is deeply effected by alcohol and a struggle to control his or her drinking.  Timmy Grins is an alcoholic, a poet, and an activist.  He’s seen brilliance through his work, and tragedy through his excessive drinking.  Both are poetically on display in his new video “Last Call”.  Says Timmy:

“Last Call”
This is what it is like to wake up and your life has become a nightmare.

For me alcohol has been my greatest nemesis.  I am a 3-time loser to DWI and I have wrecked family, friends, and myself during my wildly unsuccessful drinking career.   I am an alcoholic, I am not ashamed of that fact, I will not hide in corners with it, rather I have recognized that there is a power greater than myself and I must yield to it one day at a time.

If there is one phrase that I want you take from this video experience it would be:  “Take these words home and think em through, or the next rhyme I write it might be about you”  -Mobb Deep
