Can A n**a Borrow A Pencil

Here we have Can A N***a Borrow A Pencil, a new EP from Chicago’s Jason Davis.  Davis is a burgeoning emcee, and as I’ve mentioned many times, one of my favorite new artists in Chicago.  The project’s title comes from a news story out of Jefferson County in which a school teacher was given the longest suspension in country history for using the word “n***a” towards a student.  In the audio clip that starts the project, the teacher asks in true disbelief why the word is so negative.  Saying, “I just don’t understand it, and I’m trying to understand it. I need help.  Yes, I used n***a. I’ve used it, I admit it… n***a please, you know, can you lend a n***a a pencil.”

Following the intro Davis gives us 5 new songs further exploring social conditions, his own aspirations in Hip Hop, the afterlife and, yes, flying robots.  Download the project after the jump, which comes with full album artwork, and lyrics as well.
