“Lady Gaga announced the track listing for the eagerly-awaited re-release of her massively successful debut album, ‘The Fame’, entitled ‘The Fame Monster’.  The special re-release features eight brand new songs, including the lead single “Bad Romance” and “Telephone”, a duet with superstar Beyonce.  The album includes production work from  Rodney Jerkins, RedOne, Teddy Riley, Fernando Garibay and Ron Fair.”

No you’re not witnessing a Halloween Collection, you’re witnessing the Spring/Summer collection for the LA brand Witches. Witches brand definitely has the goth girls buying up their duds in droves, however, even the girl with more sensible tastes in fashion can appreciate pieces from the collection. Their one pieces are really cute, and their t-shirt dresses are perfect for bar hopping evenings during the week. My fave thing about the collection is that you can mix and match the items together to create a whole new look for spring. The collection has me seriously re-thinking my style choices for this spring, and you may see me jumping on the color me goth bandwagon come May.

Getting into te Halloween spirit is easy this year for fans of the Dr. Marten. The Obey X Levi’s capsule collection is soon to be available at select Levi’s Store locations in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and Santa Monica and online. If you didn’t know, Obey is the clothing line of well known street artist Shepard Fairey. Fairey became famous last year when his “Hope” poster became the face of Obama’s campaign to become the prez. The collection becomes available October 29th and will range in price from $34.50 to $148.  Shout out to M6 for the 411!

Three words, grunge, grunge, grunge. Urban outfitters has reinvented, rather, replicated both from the runway and from the decade, 90′s grunge for fall. I’m not complaining though because the looks are pretty cool. I like the interesting shoe designs best along with the grey harem pants and silk blue blouse, the purple polka dot dress is too cute as well.

As I was perusing the net today I ran across a Newsweek piece about Russian Arms Dealer Viktor Bout, it is a must read. So, in an interesting turn from fashion talk, I wanted to share some pictures of US Weapons with you guys. What I found interesting was that the Newsweek article took a somewhat mocking tone towards the arms dealer, but, at the bottom of the piece, there was a list of related articles including one that promised pictures of “Weapons Porn” kind of hypocritical right? On the one hand the arms dealer is mocked, on the other, the US Military weapons are cool… food for thought. Well, I clicked on the article, and although many of the weapons could make a person sick, thinking about what they’re used for, others were actually kind of cool, and thought provoking with regards to Military Intelligence and Defense. Fifi Lapin and Mighty Fine have managed to combine two of my most fave things in one, Bunny’s and Delias. I’ve been a fan of Delias since I was thirteen, before they even had a retail store and were just a catalogue (did I just age myself?). Date-rape detection has been made easy thanks to UK-based cosmetics company 2LoveMyLips. The company has released 5 new shades of lipgloss that detect GHB and Ketamine. When a drop of the date-rape drug turns the gloss blue then you know you’ve been drugged. Tracy Whittaker the managing director of the company claims to be launching the product in the U.S. and Australia soon. The burning question, however is does it actually work? So far the only stats given with regards to that question are that “the Roofie Foundation, a UK agency set up to help victims of drug rape received 1,200 calls to their helpline in the last two years.” Ladies, beware of what you drink and from whom. It’s always better to buy your own when you’re at the nightclub. Just some good advice, if you ask me.

The Washington Post has posted an article on their website about Lay-Aways. For those of you who don’t remember, lay-away is when you put an item on hold until you have the money to pay for it. This past Tuesday, comedian Steve Harvey, made his way to K-Mart in Greenbelt, MD in support of lay-aways. A grand idea for those of us who don’t want to rack up on credit card interest on an item that can easily be purchased within a few weeks. So remember, those of you suffering during the recession, if you’re looking to buy that Wii or those awesome kicks, but don’t have the cash up front well there’s always lay-away. After all, Christmas is around the corner.

This year Marc Jacobs used his position at Louis Vuitton to bring back a much missed memory from the 60′s and 70′s The Fro. I was a little disarmed by this at first, but then I thought, this is kinda cool… I think. The reason I’m down with the fro is because I’m a huge fan of the music and style from the 60′s abnd 70′s. I’m, also a huge Marc Jacobs fan. I would have liked to have seen more authentic fro’s grace the stages of the runway, but hey, you can’t win ‘em all.

Recently a website called boingboing.net became entrenched in a battle with Ralph Lauren over the photoshopping mistake, (at least we hope it was a mistake), in one of the brand’s ads. Boing Boing blogger Xeni made comments criticizing the size of the model, who is ridiculously emaciated, and suggested that perhaps it was a photoshop error since the model’s “head is bigger than her pelvis.” Rather than responding appropriately to the criticism Ralph Lauren instead tried to shut down the site’s post claiming it violated copyright infringement laws, which it did not. It’s unfortunate that rather than address these concerns, Ralph Lauren co. resorted to taking low blows at the site. This model has obviously been photoshopped to inhuman proportions and the ad should be replaced.

As a blogger with a bird phobia I must say, how frightening! Apparently it was Sesame Street who reached out to American Apparel CEO Dov Charney in hopes of doing a line of tee’s with the brand. Charney agreed and the line is set to come out this month. What’s hilarious about all of this is that American Apparel is a brand known for it’s sex appeal and Sesame Street is a children’s brand. I don’t think the people behind Sesame Street were imagining the possibly raunchy ads that would come out of their partnering with AA. Chances are, they were just seeing Oscar Green.

If you are truly struggling financially you will understand why it makes  Latoya Peterson, Jezebel writer and owner of pop culture blog racialicious, sick reading faux struggle stories written for mainstream fashion mags by faux poor women. Elle recently did an article featuring a woman “struggling” financially, and yet, she still managed to “splurge” on 800 dollar shoes. In her article Peterson questions why this well off woman is downplaying her financial status just to fit in to the trend of being hurt by the recession. Especially when there are people out there who cannot afford to pay their rent. All in all this Jezebel article is a must read for real people going through hard financial times.

The Knowles camp decided to let someone other than Beyonce out for a photo shoot recently,lol… In reality though, Solange totally slaughters this Honey Mag photo shoot. It takes a strong (or crazy) woman to shave off all her hair. I think Ms. Kowles looks fantastic. Solange definitely appeals to me more than Beyonce, but that’s not to take away from Big Sis’s achievements, just my preference. We covered Gareth Pugh’s collaboration with Incase a few days ago and he recently released his Spring collection this week in Paris as well. The thing is, Pugh’s collection looks like it was made for fall to me based on the color, length, and layering of everything. T-Shirt brand Money Laundry just announced a new line of tee’s stitched with actual U.S. Currency which they call “money thread” in other words 100 percent recycled bills ranging from $1-$100 dollar amounts. Each shirt has approximately $22.56 worht of money used for the stitching. Each shirt graphic is inspired by currency from the 19th and 20th centuries.

A Midwestern mother is being sued to the tune of $80,000 per song for being caught illegally downloading. The record industry is trying to make an example of the mom, who was reportably busted for downloading 90′s Dance hit ”Rhythm is a Dancer” SMH. The defendant’s lawyer is asking for a new trial and claims  “The record industry wants to use this case to scare people into settling,”, typically when illegal downloaders settle it is for around three-thousand dollars… Yikes!

Rei Kawakubo, designer for Comme de Garcon is putting together a collection of hand bags inspired by none other than the Fab Four. Unfortunately, they will only be available in London at Dover Street Market and Tokyo at Gyre. Kawakubo basically got together with Apple Corps ltd. the company who manages the Beatles music catalogue in order for permission to work on this project. There’s speculation that there may be a t-shirt line to come next.

‘Tis the season for ghouls and harper’s Bazaar is celebrating with a Tim Burton photo spread in their October issue. The results are creepy but fun. The pictures pay homage to his classic films such as “Edward Scissor Hands” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and the designer pieces that he uses are killer. She has been making waves ever since she stepped foot onto the music scene with her bizarre fashion, deeply artistic lyrics, and unapologetic pop melodies. The Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome (MACRO) is currently running an exhibit titled “New York Minute” featuring 60 artists that consider themselves to be spiritually rooted in New York if not from the actual city. New York Minute will be part of a newly developed segment of the Rome art gallery called Macro Future.

This division of the Roman museum will focus on fashion, music, commerce, alongside more traditional visual artwork. According to Roman website inabbondanza.com  “The event is a result of a collaboration between Adidas Originals and MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome). The core objective of the exhibit is to demonstrate to today’s youth that it is fine to be different and that they should be free to express themselves.”

What better excuse for an art exhibit? here is some more info in case you happen to be in Rome in the near future.

Mac has released another great collection just in time for my FAVORITE holiday. The Goth collection has enough black for a whole slew of Emo high schooler’s or for someone who wants to be, say, a witch for Halloween. Fall is the perfect time to experiment with dramatic makeup, as women’s hair get’s darker and suntans fade something must be done to accentuate the face. Mac is one of the best brands when it comes to dramatizing your look.

Sliimy is an openly gay French pop singer who happens to be the first signee to Perez Hilton’s Perezious/Warner Bros music label. His music has been described as similar to Prince, Lily Allen, and Mika but it’s clear Sliimy has a style all his own. Since his single “Wake Up” has been released Sliimy has become a number one trending topic on twitter, been on tour all across North America, and has created a video for his new single. Sliimy also dabbles in art and has created the design for his newly released Sliimy music tee. The tee features album artwork on the front and the “Paint Your Face” album track listing on the back. Each shirt comes with a hang-tag containing a web link and unique code that allows the owner to download a copy of the album. If you don’t know who Sliimy is by now, you’d better ask somebody.

The infamous Claw Money is debuting a womenswear line this fall called the  ”DIY Fall Couture” collection. The line was inspired by tough girls who aren’t afraid to fight for fashion. Although the well known graffitti artist and B-girl usually only dabbles in the world of streetwear, this year she is stepping into the realm of contemporary women’s wear. Her pieces are wearable and in style and although they fall under the women’s wear umbrella they have a certifiable edge. Not to mention she chose 2 gorgeous models to show them off! Karl Lagerfeld is an avid supporter of french boutique Colette, which is where you can now buy a statue of the man behind the Chanel brand. Japanese streetwear brand Tokidoki has created, according to WWD, a 10 inches tall Mini Karl that comes dresses in a skinny black suit, rhinestone-studded tie and belt, signature sunglasses – all from his K Karl Lagerfeld Collection. teh statues will be launching next month exclusively at colette, then it will be available at Tokidoki flagships in New York, Milan and Los Angeles and select specialty stores for holiday for about US$190. Mini Karl will also appear on T-shirts in next spring’s K collection.

Just Cavalli channeled 90′s grunge meets streetwear for his Spring 2010 collection. Layered lingerie is the key to getting Cavalli’s look for next season. You’ll have to layer since many of these pieces aren’t going to cover enough on top,so unless your looking to have a nip slip, you’d better layer up. Denim mini’s, bra’s as outerwear, and silk sun dresses mostly marched down the runway. many of the pieces boasted slogans such as “Just Bobby”, not to be confused with Justin Bobby, and “I’ve Just been Touched by Cavalli”, I’m sure his younger fans (the one’s who can afford it) will love that as a statement item, the statement being I can afford to wear Cavalli.

If you like bows and babydoll dresses then you’ll love Moschino’s spring 2010 collection, which debuted this week during Milan Fashion Week. This year the show boasted a large pink heart as the runway’s backdrop and newly redesigned Coca cola light bottles. The women were dressed similar to mature baby doll’s with lots of black and white. All in all the collection looked fun but most of the dresses are going to have to have some length added as they were as short as shirts.

Recently Nike put together a photo shoot featuring atheletes Maria Sharapova, Sofia Boutella, Alexandre Pato, Rafael Nadal, Manny Pacquiao, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Recently UK retailer Flatspot have just released two additional styles from Nike SB’s October ’09 delivery. The first is a Aqua Marine/Electrolime Blazer in premium pig-suede that comes with aqua and white laces. The second is a premium Dunk low featuring black suede and green leather for the upper, complete with an orange leather swoosh, purple laces and contrast stitching, alongside a golden yellow outersole/constrast stitching on the midsole and golden yellow backup laces. Refinery29.com recently put together a list of the top 10 fashion movies ever made. I think it is hillarious that Zoolander made the cut. Someone once said that you can’t ridicule the fashion idustry because it is the only industry that ridicules itself by being absolutely ridiculous (in somewhat similar words). Whoever said that was wrong. Zoolander did a fantastic job of making fun of models as well as the fashion industry. LOL

It’s been brought to my attention that Diablo Cody, (“Juno” 2007, “Jennifer’s Body” 2009 ) will be writing and producing an adaptation of Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley High young adult book series. The film is going to be set in the eighties and I am dying to see the costumes. Diablo Cody has somewhat of a cult following and it will be interesting to see how she puts her signature style on the film. After speculation that she would be setting the film in modern times she made the statement “Don’t feel like brokering some deal with T-Mobile to give Enid a Sidekick.”, classic. I am a huge Diablo Cody fan and actually had the SVH GAME growing up, therefore you can expect me to be the first one in line at the box office opening day.

Jeremy Scott caused a stir during this year’s spring fashion week in London when he debuted a collection inspired by none other than The Flinstones. What’s with the Hannah Barbera obsession lately? He garnered much criticism over the wear ability of this collection, however, I found a lot of pieces kind of fun and wearable, especially on the beach. I found the color and fit to be wonderful. Chicago Vintage brand Rocket Mansion, which has been sold at popular bucktown boutique Verse owned by Kortnee Doss, is gearing up for the launch of their online store. In celebration of the launch Melanie Lyke, owner of the brand, shot a photo shoot featuring some her vintage pieces and best friends. FINALLY the Jimmy Choo X H&M women’s wear previews have arrived. This is the first time ever that fashion retailor H&M is teaming up with an accessories brand and boy did they make a good choice as to who to work with. Jimmy Choo is a household name thanks to his infamous shoes made popular by pop culture references in Sex and the City and a song by Chester French.  The entire collection consists of studded flats and belts, strappy high heels, to die for leather (faux?) clutches and purses, black mid-length dresses, lots of electric blue, including a blue suede mini capped-sleeve dress, Sequined tops and jackets (sequins are all the rage right now), fur vests, over the kneww leather boots and much much more. The collection hits 200 H&M stores nationwide on November 14th.

Designer Mark Fast decided to use 3 girls sized 12-14 in his runway show this year for London Fashion Week and when he did his stylist and casting director, who have not been named, quit. Fast made the decision to use average sized models after his line had been criticized for being wearable only if you are super-thin. He was intent on proving his dresses can be worn by regular sized and plus sized women. The designer previously had been involved in All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, a photography exhibition featuring models aged 18 to 65, from sizes eight to 16 which is where he first worked with one of the larger sized models.

I love Fashion Week oversea’s because quite frankly they are so much more creative and fun. You lose the impression that everything is meant for selling because the vibe is more artistic. This season Charlie Le Mindu presented a hair inspired collection that could rival some of the most outrageous hair shows in the U.S.

Harper’s Bazaar Japan recently released a first lady style issue and boy was it bizare. The spread featured articles instructing readers how to dress like Michelle Obama and Carla Sarkozy similar to what you might find in an American Mag. Then thigns got creepy, (yet kinda cool) when the editors decided to use a blonde plastic doll in a photo spread posing in front of the white house with a poodle, with Barack Obama, Nicholas Sarkozy, JFK, working with children, and on the red carpet. The relationship between Japan and the west is very interesting to say the least, as this photo spread proves. Why the blonde doll, why JFK, aren’t dolls creepy? This photoshoot begs the question, exactly just how does the east view the west?

That’s how I feel about these ultra comfy looking black semi-torn jeans from Insight, $100. You can pretty much pair these with anything this fall, as ripped jeans are a major trend, and the skinny jean still hasn’t worn out it’s welcome. I would wear them with a long tee, furry vest, a gold rope necklace, and some killer sky-high heels, you can call it the Rihanna meets Rachael Zoe look. Pointed toe shoes, voluminous pieces, and bright and interesting color patterns were the hallmark of Luella Bartley’s collection. Taking a cue from many other designers this season, Luella took a step away from the black and studded and a step toward the conservative, minus the creativecolor patterns. Her pices are great dinner party looks. I would avoid most of these for the office because they are all very short. I really enjoy the direction Luella has taken, this is definitely a move away from the teeney bopper trends of her fall collection yet she still manages to radiate the essence of kitschy Luella in every piece.

New Zealand designer Karen Walker, who happens to show her collections in London, focused her SS/10 line on a popular British television program from the sixties called “The Prisoner”. The clothes for the collection were amazing, but even more amazing were the colorful boat shoes she designed and debuted on the runway for independent and casual footwear brand Pointer. I am going to try and order a pair online come this spring, so wish me luck in finding them.

Calling all women’s footwear afficianados, this post is for you. Behold, a closer look at the shoes designed for the Rodarte Runway this season. They were made by Nicholas Kirkwood, I can’t imagine what they are going to retail for, if they are even being sold that is… I’m going to guess between 1 and 2 thousand, easily. In a genius business move, Norma Kamali previewed her Couture, E-bay, and Walmart Collection in one show and it was held at NYC’s Apple Store. Why was it held at the Apple Store you may ask? It’s because while previewing her collections she also unveiled a new I-Phone App which will allow users to view all three Norma Kamali collections, press clips, YouTube videos and Kamali’s blog and also a new game on Roiworld with avatars who wears the 15-piece Norma Kamali line for Wal-Mart. As a proponenet for High and Low culture, I comment Ms. Kamali on reaching out to customers at every economic level during these hard financial times. During the show each model held a sign that read which collection she was wearing, Walmar, E-bay, or Couture. What a clever idea, go girl!

As a member of the girl group Destiny’s Child it’s likely that Michelle Williams has often had to take a backseat when it comes to the spotlight.  Not this time. Check out the pictures from a cool photo spread that she did for Random Magazine, who’s catchphrase is “open your mind and be inspired.”  I certainly was inspired when I looked at Michelle Williams’ shoot. I’ve always loved Michelle’s voice in Destiny’s Child and I jam her solo cd, Unexpected still to this day. At least that’s the controversial slogan used in a new Play Dough advertising campaign in Singapore. Within the ad, controversial and dangerous images, especially with regards to children, such as razors, butcher knives, pill bottles,and a saw are created using Play Dough. I guess Play Dough is a lot safer than some basic items we keep around the house… At any rate, these ads are hilarious, what are your thoughts? New Balance has recently released the 574 Clips Sneaker made from left over materials from the New Balance 993 and 996 lines.In designing the 574, four different mesh colors were used from the 996 line, pig suede uppers and microfibers and lining were taken from the 993, and all the unnecessary foam from the tongue and collar has been removed making this one environmentally friendly sneaker.

High end brand Burberry, most known for their trench coats but also for their sunglasses and fragrances, has started a social networking site called artofthetrench.com. The site will feature pictures of people in Burberry trench coats in the hopes of getting people to want to actually own a Burberry trench coat (what a crazy idea). Some have speculated that this is not a lucrative business venture on the part of Burberry, however, Chief executive Angela Ahrendts remains optimistic that the site will help introduce new customers or customers only familiar with the Burberry sunglasses or fragrances to the very chic Burberry trench.

The works of psychologist Carl Jung has mostly been studied by hard core psychoanalysts and Jungians (people who religiously study the works of Carl Jung) and college students. With the publishing of the Jung’s most in depth psychological studies,The Red Book, that’s all about to change. The New York Times recently wrote an in-depth article detailing the way in which Jung was revered and ridiculed during his own time, until recent times.

The reason for his ridicule is that as a psychologist Jung completely broke with traditional ideas about how to treat mental patients. Jung promoted the idea that all of humanity was connected through a collective unconscious that revealed itself through dreams. In his life, he studied the rants of schizophrenics as if they had true knowledge and he walked the fine line between genius and insanity himself. The Red Book tells the tale of an inner journey Jung experienced in the midst of a nervous breakdown. The book is filled with what some say is great spiritual knowledge and others the work of a crazy person. For what it’s worth, read it for the demonic pictures and maybe you’ll end up learning something you never knew before.

Mega Denim brand G-Star did a good job of showing how well denim translates to more than just jeans. One piece outfits for the ladies, White tuxedo jackets for men, harem pants, vests, dresses, and men and women’s blazers were all made from Raw Denim. G-Star put together a great show and made great use of the white and blue color palette they used for most of their pieces.  Casual and Chic became one during this show.

Rodarte’s Spring collection was heads above the rest. The illusion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy created was that a a Phoenix rising from the ashes. They were inspired by the singed land in California due to fires and imagined a woman in the midst of ruin pulling herself together and dressing herself in rags.

How did they accomplish this feat? Simple, by taking luxe materials and basically destroying and shredding them. Them, putting them back together using clever draping techniques and creating a hodge podge effect in which “they aged, painted, burned, shredded, sandpapered, and otherwise destroyed all of the materials—including grungy scraps of plaid, plastic, cheesecloth, wool cobweb, crystals, macramé, leather, and more—until they bore only traces of what they had been originally.” (style.com) The result, one fierce collection. Where Marc Jacobs aim was to steer clear of studs, Rodarte embraced them and pushed the limits of the studded grunge look to new heights.

His theme for this season was being an individual, and anyone who knows Marc Jacobs knows he certainly is an individual. His collection was filled with short shorts and intricately designed blazers, ruffles everywhere, long peasant dresses, underwear as outerwear, sequins, and nude leggings.

Gwen Stefani’s line LAMB (Love Angel Music Baby) can best be described as trendy and fun. Gwen has taken every trend that has been popular in the last 4 years and worked it for her show. The no pants look, harem pants, overalls, suspenders, leggings, and zippers everywhere were all over Gwen’s runway.This line is incredibly youthful and for the young at heart. If your taste is more mature you possibly could pull off one or two pieces here and there to wear as separates. Gwen’s dresses are the highlight of her collection and the most easily accessible.
