[Interview] Sean Price: Get Busy

RubyHornet: A lot of dope producers on the LP. But particularly, it seems like you have great camaraderie with Alchemist. What is that relationship like?
Sean Price: I mean, he good money. He’s a funny guy, a dope producer. A lot of people like to email beats. But I flew out there, I flew out to California. I stayed at his crib and we knocked these joints out. I got some more joints from him that we did out there that I ain’t put on my album.
RubyHornet: Word so we can expect a lot more of that?
Sean Price: Hell yeah, and I did a song with Action Bronson for his LP.
RubyHornet: Word, I would have thought you would fuck with Action. Glad that happened.
Sean Price: Yeah, he’s a good guy. He’s a cook too, so he actually made a sandwich called the 5-percenter. When you see Action Bronson, ask him what the 5-percenter is.
RubyHornet: You mentioned Dru Ha earlier. Duck Down set the blueprint for a lot that is happening now, really one of the forefathers of this whole indie digital movement. Where do you seem them in the next couple years?
Sean Price: Duck Down is the best. At one time, we weren’t cool (haha). Now it’s the place to be. It’s the only label I’ve been on. One label my whole career, one manager my whole career, so you know. You should draw the line between business and friendship, but it’s fuckin’ impossible up here. I love these guys like family. I do realize it’s a business and I’m not just signed cause we peoples, I give them quality shit to work with. I’m not signed because I’m their homeboy, I’m signed because I get busy.
RubyHornet: And that’s a mutual respect that ya’ll have.
Sean Price: Right. And if they think I’m not getting busy enough and choose to let me go whenever, that’s cool. It’s cool I understand it, I’m not mixing business and family like that, I know it ain’t intentional, it’s business.
RubyHornet: Right and I feel that business aspect is evident in your music. A lot of the tracks on the LP are a little over two minutes. So what’s really the meaning of that?
Sean Price: N***as talk too much man. I told Noah and Dru, If people say the LP is too short and that’s their only problem with my ass, then listen to it twice. Fuck it.
